Ir Prof. Shum is widely recognized in emulsion, biomicrofluidics, biomedical engineering and soft matter; he receives the inaugural Hong Kong Engineering Science and Technology Award 2022, Croucher Senior Research Fellowship 2020, Rising Start Award by Ton Duc Thang University (Vietnam), NSFC Excellent Young Scientist Fund in 2019, Young Scientists Award in Microsystems and Nanoengineering Summit 2019, IEEE Nanomed New Innovator 2018, the Early Career Award by the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong in 2012. He became a fellow of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers in 2023, a member in the Global Young Academy (first from Hong Kong) in 2021, a founding member (in 2018) and President (in 2021) in the Young Academy of Sciences of Hong Kong and a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) in 2017. He serves as an associate editor for Biomicrofluidics (American Institute of Physics), editorial board member for Microsystems and Nanoengineering (Springer Nature) and Scientific Reports (Springer Nature) and an editorial advisory board member for Lab-on-a-Chip (RSC). He also serves on government committees, such as the Committee on Innovation, Technology and Industry Development.

Prof. Wang is currently a full professor in the Department of Electric Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is also the Co-founder and Chief Scientist of SenseTime Group Limited, an HKEX-listed AI software company. Prof. Wang is an expert in AI and computer vision. He has published over 300 papers in top-tier journals and conferences in AI, receiving 93,000 citations on Google Scholars with an h-index of 139, ranked top 30 in the computer science field worldwide. Prof. Wang was appointed as Head of Research of SenseTime Group in 2016 and has been leading SenseTime’s R&D ever since. He established the R&D systems in computer vision, natural language understanding, voice recognition, mixed reality, AI content generation, mobile intelligent photography image, general artificial intelligence, decision intelligence, intelligent chips, AI sensors, SenseCore AI Infrastructure and a number of other fields.

Prof. Zijian Zheng is Chair Professor of Soft Materials and Devices at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He received his B. Eng. in Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University (1999-2003), PhD in Chemistry at University of Cambridge (2004-2007), and postdoctoral training at Northwestern University (2008-2009). Prof. Zheng’s research interests include surface and polymer science, nanofabrication, flexible and wearable electronics, energy conversion and storage. He is elected Founding Member of The Young Academy of Sciences of Hong Kong (2018), Chang Jiang Chair Professor by the Ministry of Education of China (2020), Senior Research Fellow of the University Grant Commission of Hong Kong (2021), and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (2022).

Dr. Russell Chan is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Gense Technologies Ltd. He oversees the research, development, and dissemination of portable biomedical imaging and spectroscopy systems for preventive screening and chronic disease monitoring. He received his B.Eng. in biomedical engineering and Ph.D. in electrical and electronic engineering from The University of Hong Kong. He was a postdoc at Stanford University in Neurology and Neurological Sciences, and New York University in Neuroscience, Tech4Health, and Ophthalmology. He is an elected Junior Fellow of International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM), a prestigious and highly selective award for young scientists from the leading global MRI society. He is also the lead of R&D focus group and a committee member of the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers (HKIE) Biomedical Division (BMD). He has published more than 20 journal papers and 75 conference papers. He is an inventor for more than 10 provisional patents at Gense Technologies Ltd.

Justin is the co-founder and CEO of Gense Technologies, a medtech startup offering an affordable and portable self-help medical imaging device for in-depth health monitoring and preventive screening at home and clinics. The device targets some of the most prevalent and costliest diseases’ early detection and chronic disease management for liver, lungs, kidney and more.

As co-founding CEO, Justin is leading a team of 25 PhDs and researchers from Stanford, Cambridge, and Hong Kong. He is also coordinating over 10 partnerships with professors on clinical trials, machine learning, biomedical imaging, and mathematical modelling. He has also led the start-up in winning the Jumpstarter Global Competition, the Grand Award at Hong Kong ICT Startup Awards, and Forbes 100 to Watch.

Justin is collaborating with healthcare providers globally to set up local deployment pipeline, including primary healthcare, hospital network, clinic chains, elderly service, and multinational conglomerates.

Justin received his MPhil in Finance and Economics from the University of Cambridge and bachelor’s degree from the University of Warwick. He is also a Forbes 30 Under 30 and Tatler GenT recipient.

Dr. Wong received his B.Sc. in Applied Physics from the City University of Hong Kong and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from The University of Hong Kong. His research focus includes biomedical imaging utilizing electrical impedance tomography (EIT), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), optogenetics, pharmacological inhibition, behavioral conditioning, and auditory processing neuroimaging. He has expertise in areas of technical assessments on electronic consumer products and regulatory protocols on product’s electrical safety. Dr. Wong received Summa Cum Laude Awards for 5 ISMRM conference papers and Magna Cum Laude Awards for 4 ISMRM conference papers. He has published 9 journal papers and 20 conference papers, including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS). He is listed as an inventor of 3 EIT-related provisional patents in Gense Technologies Ltd. and commercialize the research work to mass-manufacturable products with third-parties accreditations.
