During his PhD, Johnny specialized in designing nanomaterials, nanofabrication, and nanoelectronic devices, earning the Intel Foundation Ph.D. Fellowship (2007-09). His work includes monolayer doping, nanowire integration, and high-performance devices. After that, as a post-doc researcher at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, he researched nanoscale energy-harvesting devices. Now at the City University of Hong Kong, he explores innovative nanomaterials and nanoengineering across chemistry, physics, materials science, and engineering for diverse technological applications. Till now, he has published more than 320 journal articles and 30 invention patents. He won the President’s Awards & Outstanding Research Awards at the City University of Hong Kong (2016 and 2024), the World Cultural Council Special Recognition Award (2018), the Semi Grand Prix and Gold Medal at the Silicon Valley International Invention Festival (2024), etc.
